AMERICAN FLAGS QUILT – WEEK 2 – SEWING FLAGS

SEWING INSTRUCTIONS 

Flag finished size: 11″ x 18½”

To get the best results slow down with your sewing, take your time and don’t rush. Remember to enjoy the process.

For the best end result set, finger press and press all seams as you sew them.

1. Take two red and two white strips and sew together. Starting with red, then white, red, and white. Alternating the direction you sew each strip. Set and press seams towards the red after you sew each strip.

2. Cut 3 x 10½” blocks from your sewn together strips, as pictured below:

3. Take two red and one white strip and sew together. Starting with red, then white, and then red. Set and press seams towards the red after you sew each strip.

4. Cut 2 x 18½” blocks from your sewn together strips, as pictured below:

5. Cut the remaining red strip and one white strip in half, as pictured below:

6. Take the two red and one white strip and sew together. Starting with red, then white, and then red. Set and press seams towards the red after you sew each strip. Then trim to 18½”, as pictured below:

7. Take one blue cut piece and one 10½” block and sew together, ensuring the blue is sitting to the left. Set and press seams towards the blue. Then sew a 18½” block to the the bottom. Press seams towards the red. As pictured below:

8. Repeat, making 3 flags in each of your five colorways. Making 15 flags in total.

9. Press and measure all flags. If some are smaller than 18½” x 11″ you will need to square them so they are all the same size.
