Summer Blooms Sew Along!

summer blooms sew along

Hey quilty friends!

Are you looking for a stress-free, chill project to chip away at over the summer? Well, I am thrilled to say this is it!

I’m excited to announce our first-ever 🌸 Summer Blooms Sew Along 🌸 and I’d love for you to join us!

We’re diving into a 10-week English Paper Piecing adventure, making two beautiful Grandmother’s Flower Garden flowers each week. By the end of summer, you’ll have enough flowers to make a stunning quilt.

I chose English Paper Piecing because it’s fun and easy, and it encourages you to slow down and enjoy the process. Best of all, it’s portable, so you can take it wherever you go this summer.

The best part? There are no strict rules! This sew-along is all about having fun and enjoying a no-stress project over the summer. Whether you’re a seasoned pro or just starting with English Paper Piecing, this sew-along is perfect for everyone. It’s not expected that you make two blocks each week; that’s just a guideline to finish a quilt by the end. You can take as long as you’d like.

🎁 Plus, there will be a weekly giveaway! Each week, I’ll give a special prize pack with English Paper Piecing goodies to one lucky participant who shares a photo of their progress!

📸 Share your makes with us if you post on social media, use the hashtag #SummerBloomsSAL.

📅 We’ll start on July 8, the second week of July, and finish on September 16.

We’ll share our progress regularly, and I’ll do live videos over the 10 weeks, including some while I’m on vacation in Bali and Sydney. You can find the first live video HERE.

Fabric Requirements for the Summer Blooms Sew Along

This is meant to be a stress-free and chill project, so I suggest using scrap fabric or whatever you have in your stash for your flowers. I plan to use this project as a stash buster, making my flowers from whatever I find in my stash. The beautiful thing about Grandmother’s Flower Garden is that they look fantastic no matter what fabric you use. You will also need fabric for the quilt’s background, backing, and binding.

For those who prefer a little more structure, here is an example of what the quilt will look like, finished using four fabrics.

Summer Blooms Sew Along FAQs

What size Hexagaons?

For this project, I recommend using 1½” hexagons. You can, of course, use whatever size you like, but I haven’t worked out the math for other sizes.

What size will the finished quilt be?

Approximately 59″ x 64″.

When do we remove the templates?

You can remove the templates once they are surrounded by another round of hexies, which helps them keep their shape. Alternatively, you can wait until we’re ready to assemble the quilt. Before removing them, I recommend giving them a gentle press.

I can’t wait to Sew Along this summer with you! ✂️🧵
