Let’s Make a Snowball Quilt Block

Snowball Quilt Block

The wait is over: let’s make the third block for our Mystery Block of the Month 2024, the Snowballs Quilt Block. For the Snowballs Quilt Block, we will be using the technique of making four-at-a-time half-square triangles, a skill that’s both efficient and versatile. Let’s break down the process and start piecing it together. Are you ready to make this cute block? Let’s go!

The scant quarter inch seam allowance is a quilter’s secret weapon for achieving precise block sizes. This seemingly minor adjustment makes a significant difference in quilting, where accuracy is paramount. By sewing just a few threads rather than a full quarter inch, you compensate for the fabric taken up with the thread and seam, ensuring that your finished block dimensions are exactly as intended. Find out more about scant quarter inch seam allowances HERE.

For my quilt blocks, I’m using fabrics from two Ruby Star Society collections: Meadow Star by Alexia Marcelle Abegg and Rise and Shine! by Melody Miller. The distinct styles and palettes of these collections harmonize well together, showcasing the versatility of Ruby Star Society’s fabrics.

For thread, I am using Konfetti by Wonderfil Specialty Threads, a 50wt Egyptian Cotton.
