Hi everyone, I would love for you to join me for our second year of making quilts to donate to children in foster care for National Foster Care Month in May 2022.

Once again this year I have partnered with Comfort Cases, a national charity that provides packs to children in foster care. Comfort Cases are a national nonprofit that brings dignity and hope to children in foster care across all 50 states of the USA.

I have come up with four quilt patterns that are simple and quick to make, and perfect to donate:

You are not required to make the quilts suggested above, any new quilt or blanket will be gratefully accepted that is suitable for a child. You may also like to add to your package anything on the list that Comfort Cases suggest as donations (list here).

Over 700 children enter the foster care system each day. Most are given a trash bag to carry their belongings. These children have been neglected and often feel like they don’t matter. Many do not own a toothbrush or have a pair of pajamas.

Comfort Cases ask that quilts for big kids measure 50″ x 60″ and baby quilts measure 30″ x 40″. If your quilts are a little outside these measurements that will be fine.

Comfort Cases offer $15 shipping labels for boxes up to 70 pounds to be sent via USPS or UPS. So no matter where you are in the USA you have an affordable way to get your quilts to them. Click here for details.

A Comfort Case gives a child entering foster care a sense of dignity and hope. Each is packed with a quilt/blanket to snuggle under, a cozy new pair of pajamas, a stuffed animal to hug, a toothbrush, soap, and other personal care items. The gift of these simple items tells a child, you matter.

I sew all year and donate everything. Area hospitals for pediatric, local low income day care centers, CareNet who provides services for unwed/low income families, and also area shelters for animals where I sew quilts to be used in kennels from cat sixed to mid sized and larger for bigger dogs. Tons of fun creating various types of quilts. Also donate to area fire dept to be given out to children at their annual Christmas party.
