How to Make a Zipper Pouch

Zipper Pouch Tutorial

This week’s tutorial is a Zipper Pouch! I love making zipper pouches because they are just so handy for everything! I use mine for pencil cases, toiletries, crochet hooks, and the list goes on.

Don’t be intimidated by zippers, they really aren’t hard to sew, you are going to be surprised at how easy they are!

You can make Zipper Poucher whatever size you would like, just remember to cut the length of your fabric the same length as your whole zip.

I recommend using 100% quilting cotton for this project because it is a structured fabric that is easy to cut and sew, and won’t misbehave like other fabrics can – making it the perfect beginner-friendly fabric. Another good option would be cotton canvas.

Topstitch at stitch length 3 along the edge of both sides of the zipper.

Unzip your zipper about half way.

Open up your pouch so the right sides of your outer fabric are facing each other, and the right sides of your lining are facing each other.

Starting at where your zip is, line up the zipper, making sure the zipper is facing towards the lining.

Pin.

Repeat for the other side of your zipper.

Pin all the way around your zipper pouch. Marking with pins where you will begin and start leaving an opening.

Sew along the pinned edge with a ⅜” seam allowance, backstitch at the beginning and end.

Trim all corners and any excess zipper from the inside of your pouch.

Turn right side out. Use a blunt item (I use a Point Turner) to push your corners out.

Pin and sew the opening closed.

Press, ensuring your seams are sitting correctly.
