YOUR FIRST QUILT – SUPPLIES NEEDED
QUILT TOP FABRIC | Please pick ONE option:
Fat Quarters* Off the Bolt A mix of Fat Quarters and Off the Bolt |
Note: Fabric needs to be 100% quilting cotton. It is easier to cut, and cheaper, to use off the bolt fabric *Sometimes fat quarters are not true fat quarters, and you may need to cut your squares smaller if you choose to use them Getting a few extra pieces of fabrics is always useful
BACKING FABRIC | 3 ½ yards of 100% quilting cotton (standard width 44”) OR 100% cotton sheet |
Note: It is much easier to quilt with a 100% cotton backing, once you are more experienced you can try different fabrics
BINDING FABRIC | ½ yard 100% quilting cotton fabric |
Note: You might want to pick your binding fabric once you have finished your quilt top
BATTING | A piece of 65” x 65” batting – 100% cotton (preferred) or 80% cotton & 20% polyester is recommended |
Note: Leftover batting is never wasted, it can be sewn together to make bigger pieces. I recommend getting a batting that is bigger than what you need, as it works out cheaper and you will use the leftovers for future smaller projects.
| |
THREAD | Good quality thread such as Gutermann, Auriful or Metler |
Note: If you are unsure what colour to use, white is always a good option. I like to use 100% cotton thread
MASKING TAPE | Any masking tape or painters tape will do, this is used when basting the quilt together |
