YOUR FIRST QUILT – SUPPLIES NEEDED

QUILT TOP FABRIC
Please pick ONE option:

Fat Quarters*
13 x Fat Quarters in various prints

Off the Bolt
13 x 10” cuts of fabric off the bolt in various prints

A mix of Fat Quarters and Off the Bolt
13 x a mix of fat quarters and 10” cuts off the bolt

Note: Fabric needs to be 100% quilting cotton.  It is easier to cut, and cheaper, to use off the bolt fabric

*Sometimes fat quarters are not true fat quarters, and you may need to cut your squares smaller if you choose to use them

Getting a few extra pieces of fabrics is always useful

BACKING FABRIC
3 ½ yards of 100% quilting cotton (standard width 44”) OR 100% cotton sheet

Note: It is much easier to quilt with a 100% cotton backing, once you are more experienced you can try different fabrics

BINDING FABRIC
½ yard 100% quilting cotton fabric

Note: You might want to pick your binding fabric once you have finished your quilt top

BATTING
A piece of 65” x 65” batting – 100% cotton (preferred) or 80% cotton & 20% polyester is recommended

Note: Leftover batting is never wasted, it can be sewn together to make bigger pieces. I recommend getting a batting that is bigger than what you need, as it works out cheaper and you will use the leftovers for future smaller projects.

Check the manufacturer’s recommendations on how far apart quilting is required, 8½-10″ will mean you are not forced to do extra quilting

THREAD
Good quality thread such as Gutermann, Auriful or Metler

Note: If you are unsure what colour to use, white is always a good option. I like to use 100% cotton thread

MASKING TAPE
Any masking tape or painters tape will do, this is used when basting the quilt together
