PREPARE | Gather your tools and supplies | |
TASK: ARRANGING YOUR QUILT TOP | Layout your 9” squares to how you want to sew them together 7 squares in each column, and 7 squares in each row | |
On the top row, pin “column number cards” to each square from 1-7 | ||
Pin each numbered column loosely together | ||
Carefully fold each column to prepare to sew | ||
TASK: SEWING TOGETHER | Ensure your ¼” foot is attached on your sewing machine | |
Adjust your stitch length to 2 | ||
Take column 1 | ||
Starting with the first pinned pieces, remove the pin, line up the beginning, end and edges of the squares. Pin together. Sew | ||
Repeat until you have sewn all squares together in column 1 | ||
Repeat for columns 2-7 | ||
Set all seams by pressing with your iron | ||
Press seams in the direction indicated on the “column number cards” | ||
Pin columns 1 & 2 together, paying extra attention to where the seams meet and nesting them together | ||
Sew columns 1 & 2 together | ||
Check you are happy with where all your seams meet, if you are not happy unpick your stitches and start again | ||
Repeat until columns 1-7 are sewn together in the correct order | ||
Set seams by pressing with your iron | ||
Press seams to the side that works best for you | ||
Cut loose threads carefully that are on the right side of your quilt top |
