Week 3 – Rail Fence Quilt – Sewing Your Quilt Top Together

 
PREPARE

Gather your tools and supplies

 
TASK: SEWING BLOCKS TOGETHER

Take column 1

 
 

Starting with the first pinned pieces, remove the pin, line up the beginning, end and edges of the blocks. Pin together. Sew

 
 

Repeat until you have sewn all blocks together in column 1

 
 

Repeat for all your columns

 
TASK: PRESSING
Set all seams by pressing with your iron 
 Press seams towards the straight strip 
TASK: NESTING YOUR SEAMS
Pin columns 1 & 2 together, paying extra attention to where the seams meet and nesting them together 
 Sew columns 1 & 2 together 
 Check you are happy with where all your seams meet, if you are not happy unpick your stitches and start again 
 Repeat until all your columns are sewn together in the correct order 
TASK: PRESSING YOUR QUILT TOP
Set seams by pressing with your iron 
 Press seams to the side that works best for you 
 Cut loose threads carefully that are on the right side of your quilt top
